Garnet Valley Bathroom

The two most important areas we see in our renovation business are the Kitchen and Bathrooms. This client had redone their kitchen a few years back and now set their sights on a modern, spacious owner’s bathroom. There is truly something special about have your own peaceful oasis away from the world in your own home.

Kennett Square Interior Renovation

Sometimes our clients find the almost perfect home on the resale market but they wanted to make it their own. Renovations to homes that have been built in the past twenty years do not always need additions to get the space today’s buyers desire. This home has a great layout and really just needed a new look to fit the client’s needs. A new Kitchen and Bathroom gives any home the new home feeling and that is where we started on this project. From there we redid the laundry room, removed some dated interior columns, created some unique trim details and refinished all the hardwood floors.

Deer Pointe Addition & Renovation

The goal of this project was to help our clients realize their vision in the home they were purchasing. We worked with the clients prior to them purchasing the home so they could see what was possible and what the costs would be before they made their offer. The most crucial aspect of this project was adding width to the kitchen area. A 5’ addition added the room we needed to give the kitchen the look and feel everyone wanted. Once in the home we updated the window package in the family room, replaced exterior doors, replaced stair railings and spindles, added new hardwood flooring and carpet. On the exterior we replaced stucco with James Hardi Plank siding and replaced the deck and patio.

Historic West Chester Farmhouse Addition & Full Home Renovation

The winner of the 2021 Synergy Award for the best historic renovation was truly a passion project for Megill Homes. The 200 year old Tenant house from the original Rokeby Stock Farm in West Chester sits on a beautiful piece of land and has all the charm you could ever want. The problem was the house was really showing its age and needed more than just a face lift. Megill worked with the Historic Preservation Committee from the Township to design a home that would have all the amenities of a modern home but keep the look and feel of the Historic Resource that this home is. The home was taken down to the bare studs; floors and ceilings were removed and raised; a garage, breezeway, and stairwell were added; the rear of the home was expanded to allow for a beautiful first floor owner’s suite; and all systems were removed and replaced. Once the main structural and mechanical projects were complete our team focused on finishes on the interior that would give all the modern features with the feel of the historic farmhouse. Using materials from the property was an important piece of this project. Beams that were removed during demolition were reused as accent ceiling beams throughout the home and barn wood from the barn on the property were used as accents in the kitchen. Even stone that was removed from the original 24” thick exterior walls were used on the porches and breezeway. This project is a great example of what the Megill Team can accomplish.

Pocopson Kitchen

Kitchen renovations are the most popular renovations that we see. This is the area of the home where all families gather and spend the most time. For this project we had the space we needed without any additions so the focus became the design and colors of the kitchen to maximum the potential of this home. The growing trend seems to be large islands and this kitchen may have the largest island we have built. Along with the kitchen, trim updated were done in the keeping room, new brick floors were installed in the mudroom and study, the Owner’s Suite was redone with ship lap walls and ceiling, and all the site finished hardwood floors throughout the home were sanded down and restained.

Radley Run Kitchen & Guest Suite

There are not many neighborhoods in our area like Radley Run so it made sense for the owners to make the changes they wanted to their home instead of going into the market to find a home that had everything they wanted. The kitchen was the main focus of this renovation and with most houses that are a little older, the kitchen needed more space. An addition was done out the rear of the home to allow the space that was needed for a modern kitchen. At the same time, we added a larger addition out the rear of the home to allow for a Guest bedroom / Office with a full bath and a large laundry room. By adding the laundry in this area, we were able to free up space in the mudroom and make this area a space the family can really use on a daily basis. Walls were also removed on the first floor to give this home a more open feel and hardwood floors were added to areas and existing areas were refinished to give a new consistent look throughout the main floor.

Radley Run Addition & Renovation

Some homes just have a lot of charm and the last thing a smart owner and contractor want to do is lose the charm of the home when you are doing a major renovation. The Owners of this Cape style home needed bedrooms on their second level and a Family room for their growing family but they did not want to change the appearance of the home from the street. We were able to accomplish this by using an almost flat roof on the rear of the home. This allowed us to add the needed bedrooms and bathrooms, but the front of the home and the total height of the roofline was not changed. The existing garage was converted to a large Family room and a new detached garage was added.

Andover Road Full Home Renovation

Megill Homes was contracted to take this original stone home located adjacent to the Historic Merion Golf Club and make it into a home that the owners always dreamed of. The home was taken down all the way to the studs before the complete rebuild could be started. Additional foundations were added which allowed us create a large Family Room, Master Bedroom Suite, and a three car garage. The remainder of the home was re worked to create a beautiful 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath home that maintained its classic style put also has all of the modern amenities of a new home.

The first floor has an open flowing floor plan with a large mudroom, Study, Living Room, Dining Room and Powder room. The modern Kitchen flows into the Breakfast Room and Family Room giving the entire area a wide open, bright feel. Original features of the home are still present with exposed stone walls in the Family Room and Study as well and a second floor porch accessed the Master Bedroom.

The original stone was repaired and repointed while Hardi Plank siding and a new cedar roof were incorporated to complete the classic look the owners always wanted.
