Historic West Chester Farmhouse Addition & Full Home Renovation

The winner of the 2021 Synergy Award for the best historic renovation was truly a passion project for Megill Homes. The 200 year old Tenant house from the original Rokeby Stock Farm in West Chester sits on a beautiful piece of land and has all the charm you could ever want. The problem was the house was really showing its age and needed more than just a face lift. Megill worked with the Historic Preservation Committee from the Township to design a home that would have all the amenities of a modern home but keep the look and feel of the Historic Resource that this home is. The home was taken down to the bare studs; floors and ceilings were removed and raised; a garage, breezeway, and stairwell were added; the rear of the home was expanded to allow for a beautiful first floor owner’s suite; and all systems were removed and replaced. Once the main structural and mechanical projects were complete our team focused on finishes on the interior that would give all the modern features with the feel of the historic farmhouse. Using materials from the property was an important piece of this project. Beams that were removed during demolition were reused as accent ceiling beams throughout the home and barn wood from the barn on the property were used as accents in the kitchen. Even stone that was removed from the original 24” thick exterior walls were used on the porches and breezeway. This project is a great example of what the Megill Team can accomplish.
